Cherished Numbers – How to search for the perfect plate

Follow these guides to help you find your cherished numbers

Cherished Numbers

There are many ways you can go about finding your cherished numbers. The easiest way would be to enter something in the search box at the top of every page. It is better to limit your search to two or three letters, as this will provide you with the most closely matched search results. You could use your initials, first letters of your name or surname, or a shortened version of your name of surname. Some people find it easy to enter a nickname here too, as they tend to be short and catchy.

Once you have found the plate you think is right for you, please make sure that the registration can be transferred to your car. The main thing to remember is that you can't make your car look any newer than it actually is. So for example if you bought the registration 'MY04 CAR', you couldn’t put in on any car registered before 2004. Some registrations are 'ageless' and can be put on any car. One example would be 'ME 22'. These ageless registrations tend to be a little more expensive as they can be transferred onto any car.

Cherished Numbers

If you can't find any cherished numbers based upon your name within your budget, you can always personalise your car with other types of number plates. You could have memorable numbers such as birthdays, anniversaries etc. You could have your job you are in, or even have a registration based upon the make and model of your car or motorbike. There are many fun and naughty registrations available (which can be found using the searches on the left hand menu). Some of these might be a little risqué, but have an element of amusement about them.

Once you have purchased your registration, you should be aware of the rules and regulations regarding the displaying of number plates on your car. You are only allowed to use the official UK number plate font and the spacing between the characters must follow UK regulations. You aren’t permitted to display any graphics apart from a border and the EU, UK, Scotland or Welsh flags. It certainly isn't worth risking the wrath of the authorities as being caught displaying an illegal number plate can lead to a large fine and it some cases the loss in entitlement to your registration.
