Volvo
Volvo began production in 1927, when the first vehicle (nicknamed "Jakob") was produced in the city of Gothenburg. The company's founders, Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larsson, put an emphasis on safety, something that the company still holds true today. By 1931, more than 10,000 Volvos had been produced.
Post-war, Volvo unveiled one of its biggest successes, the PV444. By the 1950s, Volvo had begun exporting cars to the U.S. They also began making cars with a three point seatbelt, the principles of which are still in use today.
The 1960s saw the launch of a new Volvo sports car, the P1800. This was a success and received good publicity on TV. They began to advance with their safety protocol and added padded dashboards and re-enforced structure.
They began to have a reputation for being for business people and upmarket families. Volvo used this to produce suiting cars such as the Italian designed 780 coupe.
In the early '90s, Volvo launched the 850. The car was Volvo's first front-wheel-drive executive car, and teamed performance with the company's trademark attention to safety. They also introduced new styling to almost all their cars to try to loose the ‘boxy’ reputation.
Today, Volvo's line-up includes sedans, coupes and SUVs, and they are known for their safety and style.
