Toyota
The automaker's name is a variation of the surname of its founder, Kiichiro Toyoda. The A1 was launched in 1935, after years of research and experiments helped the company form a good image of reliability and style. The 40s seen Toyota launch a range of different passenger cars and trucks onto the market. By the end of the decade Toyota had sold over 100,000 vehicles along with developing a good image with the public.
Toyota grew bigger in the '50s and expanded its range new small cars to attract younger drivers. The company also unveiled the utilitarian BJ truck; this vehicle was the precursor to the Land Cruiser. By the end of the decade, Toyota had commenced exports to the U.S. with the establishment of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc. The first Toyota to be sold on American shores was the Crown; this was a huge success and is still held as a trophy by the company as a testament to their success throughout history.
The '60s witnessed even more growth for Toyota. Toyota introduced the Corolla, an immensely popular model that is still being manufactured on a bigger scale than ever today. Vehicles like the home-market Publica, the 2000GT, Hiace and Miniace were also launched. By the end of this decade they were selling 1 million on the home market and 1 million abroad.
Japanese-market cars like the Carina, Light Ace and Publica Starlet were launched during the 1970s. In the States, the Corolla grew in popularity and the Corona and Mk II models debuted as well. The successful Celica sports coupe was also rolled out and would remain in production for more than 30 years. This car has recently been redesigned as has been a massive success in terms of Japanese performance cars. The decade's oil crisis had made the manufacturer's compact, fuel-efficient models more popular than ever in the United States. Unlike other manufacturers, the oil crisis was actually a success for the company with sales reaching 10 million vehicles when the 70s drew to a close.
For the next 30 years, Toyota never seen a dramatic fall in sales and shares. They continued to launch new models and increase their image. They also strived to be on top of the market when they released their successful Prius which uses fuel saving Hybrid technology.
They are now in the main manufactures when it comes to Trucks, SUVs and cars. They have also been acclaimed to me the world’s most dependable cars and user friendly.
