Perodua
Perodua was establish in 1993, born into a world of tough competition especially from that of Malaysia’s biggest car company Proton. In 1994 Perodua launched their first car the Kancil which proved to be quite a success for the young company. Perdua was Malaysia’s second largest car manufacturer but began to catch up with their rivals Proton. Although they did not actually compete for the same car niche as Perodua make small compact cars, Proton still had a monopoly on the Malaysian car market. They were competing for the customers. Slowly but surely Perodua began to take customers away from proton attracting them to the smaller cheaper cars. Some Proton dealers in the UK even began to market Perodua cars to attract customers all Perodua cars are actually engineered by Daihatsu. In 2004 Perodua began to make the Toyota Avanza for Malaysian distribution, this was another major gain for the company.
In 2005 Proton officially went into decline recording extremely low sales, this paved the way for the rise or Perodua to become the largest car manufacturer in Malaysia.
When compared to Proton, Perodua was actually very successful in is ventures into the automotive market. In 2006 the Perodua Myvi out sold the Proton Wira by almost three times as much. This highlighted the demise of Proton on the continued growth of Perodua. Soon Perodua became the largest car manufacturer in Malaysia. Should Perodua continue on its successful path its is set to become the largest compact car manufacturer in all of South-East Asia. Today Perodua has produce a whopping one million cars. The company’s latest model the Perodua Viva has proved to be one of the best selling cars they have ever made. Perodua are continuing to grow and are showing no signs of slowing down , who knows, perhaps in ten years they may be competing with ford or Toyota.
