MG

MG is a British motor sports company which was founded in 1924. Rover became famous for its two seater sport cars and several race winning cars. MG was in continuous production except for world war two due to a lack of raw materials. In the 1980’s production stopped at the MG plant.

In the late 1980’s Rover became famously associated with MG and production was revived. ARG was renamed as the Rover Group and revitalized the two-seater with the MG RV8, then in 1995 they introduced the all-new MGF (redesigned and re-launched as the TF, reviving an old MG name).

With the demurer of Rover from BMW in 1999, the MG name appeared on sportier versions of the current Rover saloons and the Rover 75 estate and even a van. The MG Rover Group purchased Qvale, which had taken over enlargement of the De Tomaso Bigua. This car, renamed the Qvale Mangusta and already permitted for sale in the United States, formed the basis of the MG XPower SV, an "extreme" V8-engined sports car. It was revealed in 2002 and went on sale in 2004.MG car production has been suspended since 7 April 2005, due to the receivership of the MG Rover group. It is hoped that MG production will continue, either at Longbridge or elsewhere, if a investor for the marque is found. It has been rumoured that Rover production could also continue - possibly in China or Iran, depending on where the company's purchaser comes from.

The very history and future of MG is lying in the balance at the moment. There have been some new designs from rover under the name of MG but none have come to any great success. There is a very real possibility that MG could fall into the history books and remain there.
