Maybach

The company's name is derived from Wilhelm Maybach, one of Germany's first automotive engineers. He designed the first car that bore a Mercedes badge in 1901 and later collaborated with Graf Zeppelin to design and produce engines for the airships known as Zeppelins. With the help of his son, they made the first ever Maybach car which was based on a Mercedes-Benz chassis, the Type W1. The main purpose of the first Maybach was to give it‘s creator the opportunity to test some of his ideas and concepts which he hoped would further advance automotive engineering while it was still in its infancy.. The Type W3 made its debute in 1921, this was a triumphant occasion for everyone involved in its production and design.

Further models soon entered the market. In 1929 came the stunning Type Zeppelin DS 8 was one of the best-known Maybachs, and exhibited remarkable timelessness and durability. It had a 200hp V8 engine and could reach 93mph. They then released a limo in 1938, which was reasonably successful. This was to be their last ever production car in the 20th century. The owners decided to shift their attention towards building military and naval engines, which they did so for many years, long after the last of their production cars rolled off the production lines.

The brand was recreated in 2003, consisting of a line-up of just 2 models, the 57 and the 62. These cars are powered by a massive V12 engine and are hand built in Germany. They are made to order, each one with specific details from the customer. After all, each model is worth over a million pounds if you don’t go for the extras!
