Cherished number plates is occasionally seen as an odd choice of description for what we provide to our clients. Many people prefer the terms 'personalised registration plates' or 'personal car number plates' - but in many cases, cherished number plates (such as TO 747) is exactly what they are. It is not at all uncommon for clients to tell us that they have been looking for a specific cherished number plate for some time. There are certain letter and number combinations that have become almost fabled, and which would certainly not lack customers if they were ever be offered for sale again!

Flashy or ornamental fonts are not permitted on Car Registration Plates, and only UK national flags are permitted: any other symbols, such as soccer team logos or religious symbols may not be displayed on private car number plates. The only variant font allowed on cherished number plates (such as TO 747) as an option by the regulations is a 3D version of the standard font. The size and spacing of characters on registration plates is also dictated. More information on cherished number plates character spacing is to be found elsewhere on this website.

When choosing a personalised number plate, one must be aware that the chosen registration plate must not be newer than the vehicle it is being paired with. This is because a newer plate on an older car would give the impression that the vehicle is more modern than it truly is. This applies to all registration numbers that have age-identifiers (introduced in 1963 to today). However, dateless registrations are also available. These are popular because they are concise, extremely rare, and can be displayed on any car.
