This combination was issued from 1978

This plate would have been issued by Londonderry County Borough Council (currently Londonderry).

When choosing a personalised number plate, one must be aware that the selected registration plate must not be newer than the vehicle it is being paired with. This is because a newer plate on an older car would give the impression that the vehicle is more modern than it truly is. This applies to all registration numbers that have age-identifiers (introduced in 1963 to today). However, dateless registrations are also available. These are popular because they are succinct, extremely scarce, and can be displayed on any car.

One of the most frequent reasons we hear for the purchase of a private registration is as a gift. At first thought it might not seem like the most obvious choice when it comes to choosing a birthday, Christmas or anniversary present, but a cherished car number plate is perfect in so many ways. How many other gifts are absolutely unique and personal, can make a personal statement about the owner, have practical benefits (such as making a car easy to spot in a crowded car park), and can offer real potential for later resale at a profit?

Flashy or ornamental fonts are not permitted on Car Registration Plates, and only UK national flags are allowed: any other symbols, such as football team logos or religious symbols may not be displayed on private car number plates. The only variant font allowed on cherished number plates (such as BUI 7) as an option by the regulations is a 3D version of the standard font. The size and spacing of characters on registration plates is also dictated. More information on cherished number plates character spacing is to be found elsewhere on this website.
