‘Top Gear’ Cherished Number Sells For 11,000
02 October 2008

The 45-year-old paid a total of £10,690 for the unique plate - more than 26 times its £400 reserve which it was due to fetch at auction- made 'famous' for its obvious link to the mystery race-ace and hugely popular figure from the Top Gear TV show on the BBC.
The STIG has become hugely popular due to his hidden face, excellent driving skills and the fact that when he’s not behind the wheel he seems as though he's in another world. In one episode he was even pushed to his vehicle on a dolly trolly.
Mr Fusari, who runs the Greenford Motors car dealership in West London, now has the dilemma on which of his two Ferraris to place the plate and attract the attention of all the Top Gear fans in London.
He said: "Like all motoring enthusiasts I'm a fan of Top Gear, ironically, though, my mum always says she can't stand 'that man' Jeremy Clarkson, but that won't stop me going out and buying a white crash helmet."
Damian Lawson, who is the Marketing Manager for DVLA Personalised Registrations, said: "We had more than a dozen people chasing the The 571G registration - and there we were thinking there was only one Stig but now we're not so sure!"
This cherished number is just the most recent of plates which feature some kind of reference to a T.V. personality which have sold recently for huge amounts of money, a testament to the fans.
