Cherished Number Plates News
Rotating Number Plate
09 September 2008

If you thought this sort of thing was the preserve of James Bond in the fictional works of Ian Fleming, think again!
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey explains that a driver of a tractor managed to rig the front number plate of his vehicle so that it could be moved out of view as he drove through a toll booth, which would allow him to avoid paying the $40 toll!
Apparently he ran a rope or cable from the number plate to the cigarette lighter inside the cab of the vehicle. When he pulled on the cable, the number plate would fold up underneath, thereby not allowing the number plate cameras to take a picture of it to send him a fine.
The joke, however, was on him, because police later charged him with 'toll evasion' anyway!
