Cherished Number Plates News
Number Plate thefts due to high fuel prices
04 September 2008

An increase in car registration plate thefts in Rochdale is thought to have been caused by the current high cost of fuel.
Over 70 number plates have been stolen in the town in the last year and police think they are being used by thieves to avoid detection when stealing petrol.
They simply put the plates on their own car, fill up with fuel, and then drive away without paying.
Rochdale police are therefore one of the many regional police forces who are offering a new type of tamper-proof screw to be installed on people's cars free of charge. These screws make it almost impossible to remove the plates.
What they didn't state, however, is how you get your number plate off if you actually need to!
