Reserve Of £4,000 For Hammers' Plate

16 September 2008

West Ham Number Plate

Any devoted West Ham fan would walk once around the world to get their hands on this stunning registration plate that is up for grabs. The plate reads "WE57 HAM" and is well worth having to transform any old car into a Ham-mobile.

The licence plate, which is registered with the DVLA, is due to be up for action later this month with a reserve price of 4,000 pounds. There has also been talk that some of the clubs players may express an interest in the plate.

"We know what a large and passionate support there is for West Ham," said Damian Lawson, of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), who has organised the auction for the prestigious set of plates.

"Because the number reads so well we think it stands a real chance of topping the table of football plates." He said, clearly having high hopes for a good sell.

At present, the record for the largest sum of money paid for a football related plate in Britain was for an Arsenal themed plate seen below. The DVLA sold "AR53 NAL" for 36,000 pounds in 2004.

After losing their last two games, disgruntled Hammers’ fans may be more intrigued by Lot 835: "LOS 3R", which has a reserve price of 900 pounds for any fan whose wallet and ego are just a little bit smaller.

Here are the 10 most expensive football plates sold by the DVLA in previous years:

  1. AR53 NAL (36,000 pounds)
  2. V1 LLA (35,000 pounds)
  3. ALB 10N (19,000 pounds)
