Cherished Number Plates News
Ex-Pats Buy Patriotic Number Plates
09 November 2008

The number of ex-pats living abroad has increased in the last few years. Most go for their retirement; others simply leave to start a new life. What ever their reason for leaving, each one of them remain somewhat patriotic towards their country.
The number of people using foreign licensing agencies to register car plates that have a special place in their hearts. These plates are generally more affordable than what they would be back home because the general population would not be interested in them.
Foreign licensing bodies, particularly in the US have been receiving an increase in the number of cherished number plates being registered, which reflect some kind of roots back home. Some of these include license plates bearing mottos familiar to people from England, Ireland, Italy and Australia.
Despite most of the plates being positive in their nature, some submissions have been blocked due to racial remarks or offensive stereotyping.
This is currently a problem in its own right as the numbers of these ‘crude’ plates that are entering licensing bodies all over the world are steadily increasing. For the most part, these number plates have to be blocked and the customer notified because the comment or innuendo, which the plate makes, may be offensive to a person and or group of people. Mostly, anti-racial and justice laws will stop these slogans from being registered.
The cost of these plates may well see an increase if this interest keeps up and if the theory of supply and demand keeps up. However, now the demand is generally quite low for plates, which are patriotic in subject matter towards foreign countries. It is thought that the main reason for this is because immigrants in a particular country will either be uninterested in purchasing a cherished plate displaying a national slogan or because they are un familiar with the process and systems which are necessary to go through in order to obtain a cherished number plate in a foreign country.
