New car registrations plummet
08 September 2008

The number of new cars registered this September fell by nearly 19% compared to September 2007. Fears with the credit crunch have made people more cautious. As the economy slows down, the sales of new cars is expected to continue to decline. In Scotland this decline has been even more marked with sales falling by 21% compared to the previous year.
The fact that the government haven’t cut interest rates makes for a murky forecast for most motor dealers. They are urging the government to take some action to kick-start the car sales market.
Green campaigners however have welcomed the lower sales of new cars. They say people should be switching to public transport with the purse strings being tightened. They also encourage the government to grab this chance and do something to reduce its carbon footprint.
