White vans

White vans. We certainly can't live without them (they do a lot of delivering, for example, and plumbers use them, too). But they are annoying, aren't they?

Firstly, they smell - diesel stinks, but apparently it's better for the environment. I haven't quite figured that one out yet!

Secondly, they're slow. When you need to get somewhere quickly, you just know you're going to get stuck behind one, crawling along, with clouds of black smoke coming out the back. Not nice.

Thirdly, they don't have indicators. Or this is how it seems, as the drivers never seem to use them. Perhaps it's because they're on their non-hands-free mobile, so they don't have a free hand to operate them with!

I propose a ban on white vans on inner-city roads between 8-9am and 5-6pm. Not a huge inconvenience for them - just 2 hours a day. But it would improve traffic flow around towns hugely!

Also, do they not come in any other colours?! Why are they always white?!

Illegal fonts and spacing on Cherished Number Plates

Hello one and all! Welcome to the new cherished-number-plates.co.uk blog! Now, I'm not one for moaning, (no, really!), but I think the police really should crack down on these illegal number plates. Have a look at this one:
ok, so that one's not too bad. At least it uses the correct font, but the spacing is illegal because it's trying to spell a name of some sort (I haven't worked out what yet!).
You do get much worse examples, though. And I'm sure you've seen them yourself - totally different fonts, squashing letter to make them look like other letters etc.
Sure, these people probably aren't terrorists, but these plates do hamper the Police's Automatic Number Plate Recognition systems, in that they can't read them at all, and an actual policeman has to read it instead and waste even more tax payers' money.
So, come on people. Play nicely and use the correct fonts and stuff. You might even fail your MOT if you don't.
